Pulse-Start Metal Halide Lighting

Purchasing Tips

Tip No. 1

Calculate both the initial cost of the luminaire as well as the electricity cost over the lifetime of the lamp. A higher initial cost can easily be offset by lower electricity costs.

Tip No. 2

Pulse-start lamps and probe-start lamps use a different ballast system. Pulse-start lamps will likely fail to start with probe-start ballasts. If the lamp does start, it will likely give inconsistent and lower light. So if you are changing lighting from probe-start to pulse-start lamps, change the luminaries too.

Tip No. 3

BC Hydro provides on on-line catalogue of energy-efficient products, including pulse-start lighting.
