ENERGY STAR® and EnerGuide

ENERGY STAR is an important new element of Canada's response to the climate change challenge. It also complements Canada's other energy efficiency labelling initiative -- the EnerGuide for Equipment Program.

EnerGuide provides comparative information on the energy performance of different products, including major household appliances and heating and cooling equipment. Although EnerGuide provides buyers with the ability to compare energy performance ratings for different models, ENERGY STAR goes one step further and identifies products that meet or exceed premium levels of energy efficiency. This makes it easier for consumers to choose the most energy-efficient products sold in the Canadian marketplace -- all they need to do is look for the ENERGY STAR symbol on the product, on its packaging or in the product literature.

The ENERGY STAR symbol will be promoted hand-in-hand with Canada's EnerGuide rating system (some products that fall within the scope of ENERGY STAR do not have EnerGuide ratings). In some cases, the ENERGY STAR symbol may appear on the EnerGuide label.

EnerGuide and ENERGY STAR® - A Winning Team

The international ENERGY STAR symbol complements another important energy efficiency initiative: Canada's EnerGuide Program.

EnerGuide allows you and other consumers to compare the energy efficiency of the many different models of household appliances or heating and cooling products sold in Canada. For some of these products, ENERGY STAR goes one step further and identifies specific models that meet or exceed premium levels of energy efficiency. The ENERGY STAR symbol may even appear on an EnerGuide label:

When you see ENERGY STAR on an EnerGuide label, you can be sure that the product is among the most energy efficient available.
